Temple Square
Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah was another fantastic stop along our route. There was more to see than time would permit. But we enjoyed the things we did get to see.
Salt Lake City Temple
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Building began by the Mormon pioneers in 1853 and was completed in 1893.
The Beehive House
Built in 1854, it served as the residence of Brigham Young.
The Lion House
Completed in 1856, at one time it was also a residence of Brigham Young.
The Tabernacle
Home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
We saw an amazing acoustics demonstration here. The Tabernacle was designed so that no matter where you sit in the building, you can hear the speaker clearly with no microphone. One of the missionaries stood at the pulpit and dropped a pin into a bowl. We could hear it clearly even though we were sitting more than half way to the back of the building. Amazing!!
11-foot marble Christus statue
found in the North Visitors Center.
Children's center in the Museum of Church History.
The boys enjoyed building their own wood block temples.
The Conference Center
which features a 21,000-seat auditorium and a 900-seat theater.
One of the highlights of the trip was being able to watch the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in an evening rehearsal here.
