The path to Eagle Scout
I grew up in a family of mostly girls. I have one older brother, but I don't think any of us girls paid much attention to what he did in scouting. So having a son in Boy Scouts was a new experience for me. And now that Parker has turned 11, I have two boys in scouts.
This path to Eagle Scout has been a huge learning curve. (We're not there yet.) There should really be a class for moms when their son enters scouts! Earning the Merit Badges and Rank Advancements is no small task for a boy. But each one completed is a step closer to the honored Eagle Scout status. And though it is the boy's responsibility to do the work required to earn them, it takes a 'leader' to teach, motivate, and help keep record of what is being done. Guess who that leader generally is? MOM!!!
About here, I would love to go on a huge rant about scouting ...
the need for true leadership,
the need for honesty,
the need for effective communication,
and for taking responsibility ....
But to keep it all positive, I'll just say that
I'm SUPER proud of my boys and their willingness to stick with things, even when they're hard. I'm proud of them for being responsible, honest, trustworthy... all those things that scouts should be!
I'm excited for Parker to have joined the BSA ranks, because he's excited about it.
And I'm proud of Zach for his most recent accomplishment of earning his Star rank, along with 8 new Merit Badges. Yay!!!!
