After the storm

The sun came out this morning.
The boys were sure that meant it was warm enough to go play in the snow.
Of course, their very mean mother wouldn't let them yet.
So they faithfully watched the temperature gauge and regularly reported in on the warming trend.
"It's only -6 right now. Can we go out yet?"
"Look Mom, it's already risen to -4!"
"Mom, it's only -1! That's warm enough isn't it?"
About the time it reached 0 degrees, the city plow showed up to clear the street. After that, there was no containing them any longer. A plow means wonderful piles of snow to build amazing forts in!
It was quite a laugh though when they headed to the back yard, where no path had been shoveled or plowed, and sank to mid-thigh. Watching out the window, I saw Zach look up at me, raise his hands and shrug his shoulders, saying 'What do I do now?' Too funny!!! I replied, 'Stick together so if one of you gets stuck, the other one can come let me know.'

Zach has claimed the snow bank in front of our house for his fort.
Now he's ready for a snowball fight.
Too COLD for me to join him!
The U.S. Postal Service delivers mail rain or shine, right?
Well, not if they can't get to your mailbox.
Needless to say, we haven't received any mail for a few days.
And it looks like it may be a few days yet. When the little mail truck came sliding down the street this evening, it had a hard enough time getting to the mailboxes that weren't buried in snow. But apparently ours was just too much for them to handle. They skipped it and went right on to the next one. (If they can't reach the box from their vehicle, they don't have to deliver it.) Maybe if I meet them at the curb tomorrow, they'll give me my mail?!?!

I can't believe how much snow you guys are getting. Send some my way! When I told Savannah how cold it was and how much snow you had received, I think she actually hesitated a minute (thinking to herself, do I really want to move there?). Hope you guys are staying warm and having fun!
