Family Traditions

Parker's class is working on a project about family history and traditions. It's such a great thing! He gets to put together a family tree in any representative form he likes to share with his class. When Zach did this, he used a tree branch, then hung paper leaves for each person on the tree. We'll see how Parker chooses to represent it.

His class is also putting together a recipe book of traditional family recipes. They asked each student to bring in a recipe that "they consider to be a tradition or connect strongly to their family memories". I immediately thought of a few that were special or traditional to me, but this was Parker's project, so I asked him what he thought. He quickly responded that 'Chocolate Sunshine' was the recipe he wanted to submit. Well, this 'recipe' is not one that has been handed down through the generations, but it was a recent creation of his dad's that was a hit with everyone. And Parker assured me he would be using it and passing it on to his kids when he was grown, so that's the one we submitted.

Because I love trying new recipes, I decided to share our 'Chocolate Sunshine' recipe with all of you (at least the one person who actually reads this blog), and hope that maybe some of you will share some of your favorites with me! So here goes ....

Chocolate Sunshine
1 box brownie mix (any brand will do, but we like Betty Crocker)
A handful (or two) of semi-sweet chocolate chips (1/2-3/4 c.)
A hefty drizzle of Hershey chocolate syrup
1 tub of milk chocolate frosting

Make brownie mix according to directions on the box. Prior to pouring into baking dish, stir in chocolate chips and chocolate syrup.
Pour into baking dish, reserving a few spoonfuls in the mixing bowl. (This is to be licked clean by adults only! It is NOT advisable for children!)
Bake according to directions on the box.
After baking, cool for a few minutes. Then, when brownies are still warm, gently spread with chocolate frosting. It will melt into the brownies giving them a super yummy fudge brownie taste.
They are excellent both warm and cold. So IF there are any leftovers, put them in the fridge and enjoy them cold the next day. (Or a few hours later if you can't stand waiting all the way until tomorrow!)

There you have it! Our Breit family tradition is a LOVE OF CHOCOLATE! So this 'recipe' (if you can call it that) is a favorite that we also love to bake and share with family and friends.

Your turn! Just click on comments and leave me your favorites. The weather is getting colder and I'm ready to bake & cook! :)
